What a good quote contains

  • Your business name and contact details, and those of your client
  • A number and a date, to find it again and refer to it
  • A precise description of the work or products, with quantities and unit prices
  • The taxes, shown separately, with your registration numbers
  • Your RBQ licence number, if you are a construction contractor in Quebec
  • An expiry date and your payment terms
  • A place for your client to accept it

Quote or invoice: what is the difference?

The quote comes before the work: it states a price your client can accept or decline. The invoice comes after: it asks for payment of what was done. Once the quote is accepted, its lines usually become those of the invoice.

To check an amount quickly, use the GST/QST calculator.

Quote generator questions

Is it really free?
Yes. No account, no card, no limit on the number of quotes. The PDF carries a small "created for free with CRM PME" line at the bottom of the page.
Is my information stored?
No. The PDF is produced from your form, then forgotten: nothing is saved on my server. So you do not have to retype everything, your draft is kept in your browser, on this device only. The "Clear draft" button deletes it.
Are the taxes calculated correctly?
GST and QST — or HST, or GST and PST depending on the province — are calculated on the subtotal at the current general rates, then rounded to the cent. It is the same calculation as the sales tax calculator on this site.
Do I have to show my RBQ licence number?
If you are a construction contractor in Quebec, yes: the Régie du bâtiment du Québec requires the licence number on estimates, quotes, contracts, statements of account and invoices, in the format "RBQ licence: XXXX-XXXX-XX". Enter your ten digits and the generator formats them.
Can I add my logo?
Not in this generator. In CRM PME, your quotes carry your logo and your colours.
How do I get the quote signed?
Print it and have the acceptance area at the bottom signed. Or send it from CRM PME: your client signs online, and the signed quote becomes an invoice in one click.

Send it, get it signed, turn it into an invoice.
